What is Home?
Home can mean different things to different people. It is often linked with a certain place or person but it can also be a person’s response to a particular hobby or situation of theirs. For example, a person who enjoys wine-testing would associate their home with their favourite wine or a wine cabinet.
I wanted to portray this through my mother’s love of baking, she herself is not a baker but she spends her weekends baking things for her family, work colleagues and friends. She still uses her old home economics exercise book from when she was fourteen for her recipes which I think extends to her roots and her home as she began her baking with this book. But to further extend the concept of home perhaps I could have linked an old school photograph of my mother’s next to the exercise book but I did not realise this until afterwards.
These are some of the extra shots I tried whilst doing the shoot.
Before doing the shoot, I created a quick storyboard so that I had an idea of how the narrative would go…
I discovered that some of the shots I originally wanted did not come out too well after the shoot. But the finished project does portray both a narrative and a concept of home. However, a problem I had was that my mother’s expression seemed too serious at some points for what I wanted so I reduced the amount full body and facial frame.
