I wanted to create triptych that showcases objects given up by owners. An example of this is the objects usually found in charity shops that people have donated. These objects are presented to charity stores when owners have no more use for them. I went into multiple charity shops and collected items that had no copy or duplicate and were interesting pieces for people to donate.

I went out into the environment and used a background that had grass, bushes and tree bark. These objects are typical “mantelpiece objects” – these are household items that you would usually find atop a mantelpiece. Using nature, I wanted to take these “abandoned” items on an adventure and let them explore; giving new meaning to their existence.
I frame two off centre and mirrored each of them on the two sides of the triptych. The perfume bottle was taller that the other objects so I thought it was the better option to place in the centre of the triptych and centre of the frame like the spiderwebs of Nina Katchdourian’s.
The lighting had changed by the time I had taken the two side pictures so I darkened the centre photo which I think made the glass stand out better.
I’m very pleased with the outcome as the glass of the perfume bottle is crisp in the lighting and well accentuated by the other objects.
